Retreat for professional and personal caregivers

The Retreat

As summer gives way to autumn, the equinox offers a natural moment to pause and take stock. Wild Haven | Renew is a luxurious, fully catered three-night retreat set in the beautiful surroundings of Eryri national park, created for those who need time away from the demands of work and everyday life. Over three nights, you'll have the chance to step away from the noise, breathe a little more deeply and gain some perspective. To replenish your energy, reconnect with yourself and others, and consider what you want to carry forward into the season ahead.

Set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, your weekend will combine luxury accommodation, nourishing food, nature, gentle outdoor activity, creativity, coaching and quiet time.

The Venue

Set in the heart of Eryri National Park, Tan Llan is a beautifully restored Grade II listed country house surrounded by mountains, valleys and dramatic Welsh landscape.

The historic house combines original 18th-century character with stylish contemporary interiors and spacious, luxurious accommodation. Alongside the Main House, the beautifully converted Coach House provides an further peaceful accommodation.

With Cader Idris rising beyond the gardens and nature quite literally on the doorstep, Tan Llan feels wonderfully secluded. As summer gives way to autumn, Tan Llan offers the perfect setting for Wild Haven | Renew: somewhere beautiful to settle into a restorative weekend away from everyday life.

The house offers 8 bedrooms: a luxury master suite, 4 further double ensuite rooms, and 2 double and 1 twin room with shared house bathroom. All rooms are sold on a single occupancy basis unless requested otherwise. The twin room is available for single occupancy or can be shared if booking with a friend.

The Location

Tucked away in the heart of Eryri National Park, Tan Llan is surrounded by mountains, valleys and beautiful Welsh countryside. Just two miles from the charming town of Dolgellau, it feels wonderfully secluded while still being easy to reach.

With Cader Idris rising dramatically beyond the gardens and the River Mawddach flowing at the end of the garden, the landscape is part of the experience from the moment you arrive. There are walks and outdoor adventures on the doorstep, but this retreat is designed to be enjoyed at a slower pace — and you won't need to go far.

Much of our time will be spent at Tan Llan itself: enjoying the beautiful house and gardens, sharing meals, spending time outdoors, relaxing by the fire, and making the most of the peaceful surroundings.

There will be opportunities to explore further afield for those who want to, but equally, you can spend the whole weekend simply settling into the house, enjoying the landscape and giving yourself permission to do very little.

It is a place where the pace naturally slows, the views invite you to look a little further, and there is space to breathe.

The catering

I am delighted that Zoe from Lily & Lotus Yoga and Kitchen will be joining us to provide delicious nourishing food for the weekend.

Zoe is a trained and experienced Ayurvedic and vegan retreat chef, specialising in catering for wellness retreats.

Zoe has a PhD in Cancer Sciences and spent several years working as a cancer researcher. Her scientific background has shaped the way she thinks about food — as something that can nourish the body. She gets a lot of joy from cooking and pours this joy and love into providing inventive and nurturing food on retreat.

She has been vegetarian since the age of eight and vegan for the past nine years. She is passionate about creating wholesome, whole food that tastes good and makes you feel good too.

For Wild Haven | Renew, Zoe will be creating fresh, thoughtful meals throughout the weekend, balanced and appropriate for the season & time of day,  giving you the chance to enjoy beautiful food, good company and, for once, let someone else take care of you.

Your host

My name is Emily Hurst. I have been an NHS doctor for over 15 years, and I understand both the rewards and challenges that can come with working in a caring profession.

Having experienced burnout, stress, anxiety, bereavement and periods of questioning my own sense of purpose, I understand how easy it can be to keep going while losing sight of what you need yourself. For me, nature became an important place to pause—a place where fresh air, movement and space helped me think more clearly and simply be.

These experiences have shaped my passion for creating Wild Haven—a space where people, particularly those working in caring professions, can step away from the pressures of the workplace and daily life to connect with others who understand. I am passionate about helping people navigate the challenges, changes and decisions that life and work can bring.

You will often find me outdoors. Spending time in nature has become an important part of how I look after my own wellbeing. I love kayaking, canoeing, hiking, skiing, playing tennis and swimming. I'm a novice knitter and watercolour painter, and also a keen musician; I enjoy playing a variety of musical instruments—another way I find creativity, connection and space away from the demands of everyday life.
